Ennerdale Mill Weir outline design
Ennerdale Mill Weir is situated on the River Ehen in Egremont. The redundant structure is a barrier to fish severely impacting salmonid movement into the upper catchment where they are also important for the population of freshwater pearl mussels in the river.
Installation of the principal and secondary rapid features to control channel gradient went according to specification and these features have since functioned well. Fish passage is now possible past the old weir site and the features are naturalising well, linked to the contemporary flow and sediment regime.
