Ennerdale Mill Weir outline design
Ennerdale Mill Weir is situated on the River Ehen in Egremont. The redundant structure is a barrier to fish severely impacting salmonid movement into the upper catchment where they are also important for the population of freshwater pearl mussels in the river.
Installation of the rapid feature to control channel gradient release did not follow the design recommendations and resulted in some head-cut erosion. This was flagged and an operations team was instructed to complete the construction of the feature according to the specifications. The updated feature has since functioned well.
